The Dauphine Shorts Pattern
A high-rise, fully lined short that sits on the waist, with wide pockets and interesting multi-seamed lines
INCLUSIONS
Each PDF download includes six files: A4, Letter, and AO WITH seam allowances and WITHOUT.
SIZE
A nested pattern, sized 6-26, with and without a 5/8" seam allowance option.
TECHNIQUES
Featuring a high rise that sits just below the natural waist, a fly front zipper, tabbed waistband, box pleated and angled flap pockets, sash, and belt loops.
SUGGESTED FABRICS
We suggest fabrics with structure to highlight the Dauphine’s interesting seam details:
Midweight linens, cottons, broadcloths, gabardines, and corduroys, as well as denims, twills, and canvas under 12 oz.
FABRIC REQUIREMENT
Approx. 2 - 3 yards, depending on sizing and pattern match.
1/2-1 yard lightweight iron-on fusible if sash, waistband, flaps, and fly are fused
NOTIONS
Fusible interfacing
7” zipper
Buttons or snaps for pockets
Hook and eye for waistband
EASE
The Dauphine has a fitted waistband and full skirt.
Fun Fact
Dauphine Street, located in the French Quarter of New Orleans, is named for the Dauphine, who is the wife of the Dauphin, the heir to the French royal throne. The street would have been named in honor of a specific Dauphine during the time of French rule in the city.
Many street names in the French Quarter reflect the city's colonial past under French rule, including names of royalty or regions
